If you don’t brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride tooth paste, floss once a day, and see your dentist for your routine cleanings and exams, you run the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss.  In some cases, those teeth can be replaced with dental implants or a bridge. If you aren’t comfortable with those options, our orthodontist, Dr. Doug Jensen may recommend a removable partial denture.

This type of denture features prosthetic teeth that are attached to a plastic base that resembles your gum material.  Some are designed to attach to a metal frame; but some do not require any framework. Partial dentures are used when one or more teeth remain in the jaw. The denture will replace the missing teeth in your smile, and will keep your other teeth from drifting out of alignment.

Dr. Jensen will prepare a detailed impression of the area, including the surrounding gums, adjacent teeth, and the corresponding teeth in your bite. It will then be sent to a dental lab where your new partial is custom made to match your mouth.

While your partial denture will be designed to fit firmly in place, you might still want to use denture adhesive to secure it in place. This can also help to block food particles from getting between the gums and your denture.

If you live in the McKinney, Texas, area and you have lost multiple teeth in one area of your mouth, you should call 214-842-8106 to schedule an appointment at Jensen Orthodontic Arts.
