Orthodontic Board Certification
Dr. Doug Jensen is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and is a Board Certified orthodontist. You may be surprised to hear that orthodontic board certification is accomplished by less than a third of all American orthodontists. A Board Certified orthodontist is an orthodontist who has voluntarily gone through hundreds of additional hours of preparation to demonstrate the exceptional judgment, skills and knowledge required for providing the highest level of patient care. They have achieved board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics, the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association® and the American Association of Orthodontists®.
Dr. Jensen understands the complexity of growth development and facial form. Treatment plans include issues related to the jaw and bite, not just movement of the teeth. There is a reason orthodontists spend additional years in a highly competitive orthodontic program: to learn and perfect their ability in the specialty. - Do you only perform orthodontic treatment, or do you also offer general dentistry services such as root canals, cavity filings and extractions?
- Do you follow a specific standard of care, as outlined in the American Association of Orthodontists Clinical Practice Guidelines, when developing treatment plans/options? Please explain that process.
- What is the scope of the proposed treatment plan and possible consequences if we do not choose to move forward with one of these options now?
- Do you personally do all of the work on your patients (bend the wires, attach brackets, etc.), or will some of the work be completed by other associates? If so, what is their level of expertise?
- What are the practice office hours?
- How are treatment costs determined, and what billing options will be made available to me? What insurance plans to you accept?
- What should be expected as far as post-treatment follow-up?
- Do you provide patient references?
- Are you board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics?
