Dr. Doug Jensen offers adolescent orthodontic treatment in McKinney, Texas, for teens who need us to align their smile. Jensen Orthodontic Arts will answer a few questions teenagers may have about their treatment below:
Do I have to wear braces?
The most common time for orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 11 and 15, and for good reasons. By age 12, most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems rarely correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.
Are braces cool?
This is also a good time for orthodontic treatment because many negative associations of braces are not present. Many children in this age range undergo orthodontic treatment, so as children see their friends wearing braces, they want to fit in without much convincing.
Besides the benefits of fitting in with their friends, children at this age are growing rapidly, and orthodontists can usually take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly. Additionally, preteens and teens at this age have high metabolisms, which can help shorten overall treatment time and reduce the discomfort of orthodontic treatment.
Can I get clear braces?
Absolutely! We offer 3M Clarity™ Clear Ceramic Brackets at no additional cost, as well as Invisalign®, so even the most timid of teenagers can feel comfortable throughout their orthodontic treatment.
