Are you approaching the end of your orthodontic treatment? If so, good for you! You’re close to the perfect smile you’ve always wanted. Now, before you leave our office after removing your braces, it’s important to know there are specific things you need to do for your smile to keep it in tip-top shape and to prevent any complications. To help you know more, Dr. Jensen and our dental team would like to share those tips with you.

Tip No. 1: Wear your retainer – It’s important to follow Dr. Jensen’s instructions and wear your retainer regularly. If you fail to do so, your teeth will be tempted to slide back into their original positions, giving you a once-again crooked smile. Then you would have wasted your time going through orthodontic treatment.

Tip No. 2: Keep up on oral hygiene – Remember to brush twice a day (every morning and every night), floss once a day (preferably at night when you’re done eating for the day), and rinse your mouth daily. But, more importantly, you need to schedule a dental cleaning with your dentist as soon as possible. This is an important step because there is a high chance there are areas of your smile that were neglected while you aligned your teeth. During your appointment, your dental team will deeply clean those nooks and crannies and reduce your chances of experiencing any dental problems, like tooth decay and gum disease.

Tip No. 3: Wait to whiten – If you’re interested in brightening your smile, it’s best to wait at least a month before you do so. Waiting will give the newly exposed enamel the chance to strengthen and become less sensitive.
