Through the course of multiple adjustment sessions, your braces have brought your teeth into their ideal alignment. Once your braces are removed, you will need to use a retainer. If your front teeth needed a significant amount of realignment, your orthodontist, Dr. Doug Jensen, might recommend having a fixed retainer installed.

This retainer is basically a sturdy metal band that is cemented in place behind your teeth. This will hold the teeth steadfast in their new positions.

Since a fixed retainer is cemented in place and can’t be removed, it will require daily brushing and flossing, similar to your old braces. To help brush away plaque and food particles from hard-to-reach places, you might want to try using interdental brushes.

If you find it difficult to floss between your teeth and around the fixed retainer, you might want to try using a floss threader with waxed dental floss. The wax coating helps the strand of floss slip in place easier.

If you have questions about the best way to clean and maintain your fixed retainer in McKinney, Texas, you can always call Jensen Orthodontic Arts at 214-842-8106 to seek further advice.
