If you were to allow your uncorrected alignment issues to go without treatment, it could create several different problems. Beyond an unappealing smile, you could also experience excess wear and damage on tooth enamel as well as an increased chance of suffering multiple dental fractures.

Having braces installed on your teeth at Jensen Orthodontic Arts is just the first step in the process of preventing these problems. Once the brackets have been cemented onto your teeth and connected to the wires and other orthodontic hardware, routine adjustments will be required. Each of these sessions is designed to progressively apply tension to your teeth, bringing them one minute step closer to their ideal alignment.

Dr. Jensen generally prefers to schedule adjustments four to six weeks apart. This gives time for your teeth to gradually adjust to the new positions. If you have an upcoming scheduling conflict with an adjustment session, be sure to call our clinic at 214-842-8106 to set up an alternate appointment.

Each of the adjustment appointments also includes an inspection of the braces hardware and teeth. Spacers, bands, or any other piece of hardware that show excess wear and tear might need to be replaced. Sometimes a spacer will come loose right before a scheduled adjustment session. If this happens, you should let your orthodontist know so they can plan to replace it. This often involves setting up an earlier adjustment appointment.

Should you find that an element of the orthodontic hardware is giving you difficulties in your oral hygiene routine, feel free to ask Dr. Jensen for advice. Many times he can recommend using special oral hygiene tools to help you maintain good dental hygiene.

If you’ve had braces installed here at Jensen Orthodontic Arts in McKinney, Texas, and need to schedule your next appointment for either a checkup or emergency, call 214-842-8106. Dr. Jensen and his team will be happy to assist you with your dental needs.
